He is survived by his biological son, Samuel Wren Bendall, two brothers Gordon Pannill Bendall and Charles Hunter Bendall, two cousins, William Alexander Bendall and Richard Augustus Bendall, his wife of 23 years, Susan P. Robert leaves a legacy framed in the joy of sharing with others on stage, in the classroom and with his paintings. A favorite subject of many of his paintings was his love of the beach and surfing. In retirement, he shared his love of art by painting in acrylics, oil and interactive wall art. At the top of his acting career, he secured his Masters in Educational Administration and began his teaching career where he shared his remarkable talents in the Los Angeles elementary schools. Signing with an agent, Robert performed in plays in New York City then ventured to Hollywood, where he landed a role in the TV show, Night Court. After the war, he graduated from College of William and Mary where his interest in art history led to working in New York City in art galleries, artistic jewelry sales and as a high fashion model and actor. Growing up in Danville, Robert played basketball for George Washington High School, then attended Hampden-Sydney College for a year before joining the Vietnam War as a US Marine, Private First Class. His charisma, sense of humor and genuine kindness leave his family and friends at a profound loss. Robert was a remarkable man who had a profound impact on those around him.
